Who we are
Sound and Song Retreats was founded by Heidi Vass, a soprano, educator, and artistic leader whose work bridges rigorous vocal pedagogy with a lived commitment to sacred music and spiritual practice. Her career spans conservatory-level teaching, professional performance, and the design of learning environments that honor both technical excellence and the deeper human dimensions of singing.
Heidi’s work is grounded in evidence-based vocal pedagogy and shaped by years of teaching singers across generations and stages of development. Alongside this pedagogical foundation, her artistic life has been deeply formed by sacred repertoire and the belief that music, when approached with care and intention, can serve as a meaningful act of listening, offering, and communal presence.
She is the founder and soprano of the award-winning vocal quartet Seraphour, an ensemble dedicated to sacred music across traditions, known for its clarity of sound, depth of expression, and engagement with historic and contemplative spaces. This work continues to inform the ethos of Sound and Song Retreats, where artistic rigor, spiritual attentiveness, and shared musical life are held in balance.
Through Sound and Song Retreats, Heidi brings together world-class artists, educators, and collaborators to create programs that bridge the conservatory with lived musical practice. Each offering reflects a commitment to tradition, thoughtful listening, and the conviction that how we gather around sound shapes both the voice and the community it serves.
